What is a power move?

  • A power move is having enough strength and confidence to let go of anything or anyone that no longer serves you.
  • A power move says, “If I want my life to be different, I’m going to do something different.”
  • A power move lets people know that you are not afraid to walk away if you have to.

Making a power move requires you to take one giant step towards something you’ve been scared to do – and not look back.

When making your power move, you need to examine how you got yourself in the situation. Were you not being honest with your feelings? Did you not make your boundaries clear? Were you laying low hoping things would change on their own? Were you afraid that you would lose something by saying no? Was your pride too big?

Once you figure that out, you can determine what your power move is. Don’t dwell on the past, it’s now time to do things differently.

So go ahead:

  • Say goodbye to your hostile work environment.
  • Move your kid to a different school that will work with them.
  • Tell your toxic family you’re not coming over for the holidays.
  • Walk away from the relationship that hasn’t been serving you.
  • Enroll in that class you’ve been wanting to take to better your career.
  • Schedule that appointment with the therapist to get a hold of your issues.
  • Take that much needed solo trip to get your head together.

“You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.” – C.S. Lewis
